For the month of February, I was reading the book Everybody Writes! by Ann Handley.
Wait… what? I thought this review was for The Universe not Writes.
Yep, it is. I had all intentions of reviewing Everybody Writes! until I went through a stressful period where I ended up switching books and reading The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein and since the universe guided me to change books, I figured I should review the book it told me to read.
What’s it about?
This book contains stories and universal lessons to provide a framework for releasing the blocks to what everyone most longs for.
Reason I chose this book
I put a call out on a Facebook group for suggestions of books people would recommend that helped them change their lives. This was one of the suggestions.
But, the other reason was, as I mentioned, a stressful period in which I kept seeing the book when I was feeling the lowest. Every time I was really feeling stressed, the book was visible to me. I took it as a sign to read it and I’m glad I did.
Writing style
Gabrielle’s writing is more serious than Jen’s but not dry or stuffy. She makes her points and drops her universal truths; very much in a take it or leave it manner, without seeming rude.
Biggest lessons
I figure that the reason the universe wanted me to read this book was for the following point.
“Universal truth: Obstacles are detours in the right direction.”
I was facing stress, I was questioning myself and I needed the kick to say, ‘hey! you’re doing okay but you missed a step.’
I realised that what my business mentor told me years ago was correct. You get these challenges as you are about to level up. This detour pointed out to me that I missed something that would work in my favour as I took myself further. Once I started to correct the stressful issue, and addressed the missing point, things started to resolve and I gained more clients in that area.
Verdict
This book helped me through a stressful time.
It helps you to trust in yourself and realise that the universe will challenge you, but usually in a way that will guide you towards greatness.
